File
A file is actually a collection of data that is stored in a unit, while it is identified by a filename.
It can also be a document, picture, audio or video stream, data library, application, or another collection of data.
Here below we have provided some brief description of each file type.
Documents come under text files, such as a Word documents, RTF (Rich Text Format) documents, PDFs, Web pages, etc.
Pictures come under JPEGs, GIFs, BMPs, and layered image files, such as Photoshop documents (PSDs).
Audio files come under MP3s, AACs, WAVs, AIFs, and other files.
Video files can be encoded in MPEG, MOV, WMV, and DV formats, while many other formats are already presented.
A library file is a unit of data that is referenced by a specific program or operating system. The same comes under plug-ins, components, scripts etc.
An application is a type of program or executable file.
Programs such as Microsoft Internet Explorer and Apple iTunes are both applications, but they are also files together.
Files can be open, save, delete, and move into separate folders. At the same time they can also be done across transfer of network connections or can also be downloaded from the Internet.
To identify a file type, it can be identified by looking at the icon of that file or by reading its file extension. If a file type is associated with a specific application, then double-clicking that file can open that file within the program itself.
